Kamaljeet\u00a0Sehrawat, MP, Lok Sabha, cast the three votes allocated to India in the election of the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.<\/p>\n<p>Following the election by secret ballot, the incumbent IPU President declared Mr. Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, elected as the next President of the IPU. Immediately after the announcement of the result, Shri Harivansh and other Members of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation congratulated Mr. Dick in person and wished him a successful tenure as President of the IPU.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP, Rajya Sabha, presented to Mr. Milton Dick a congratulatory letter from the Hon\u2019ble Speaker, Lok Sabha.<\/p>\n<p>After the conclusion of the Governing Council meeting, the Assembly held its sittings to adopt the Arusha Communiqu\u00e9; the resolution submitted by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights on \u201cInclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and\u00a0empowerment of persons with disabilities\u201d; and the resolution on the emergency item, \u201cUrgent parliamentary action to address climate-related disasters and strengthen resilience in the Himalayan region and other vulnerable regions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thereafter, H.E. Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania and President of the Assembly, declared the Assembly closed.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Shri Harivansh, Hon\u2019ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, participated in the 153rd IPU Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania, from 5 to 9 October 2026.
