\nThe World Social Report highlights a profound global imbalance.<\/p>\n

On the one hand, rapid transformations are reshaping our world.<\/p>\n

\n

Digital technologies.<\/p>\n

\n

Artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

\n

Renewable energy.<\/p>\n

\n

And demographic and economic transitions.<\/p>\n

\n

On the other hand, these transformations are not working for all.<\/p>\n

\n

Poverty and deprivation are widespread.<\/p>\n

\n

Billions are locked out of opportunities because of income, gender, age, disability, ethnicity, or the many other fault lines that undermine equality.<\/p>\n

\n

Cascading global shocks \u2014 including the Middle East crisis \u2014 are making matters worse.<\/p>\n

\n

Food, fuel and fertilizer prices are surging.<\/p>\n

\n

And more than 100 countries have had to lower their growth forecasts this year alone.<\/p>\n

\n

This report advances a New Economics of Social Inclusion.<\/p>\n

\n

It reminds us that social inclusion is not only a moral or ethical imperative.<\/p>\n

\n

It is an economic necessity.<\/p>\n

\n

Inclusive societies are more productive, resilient, and prosperous.<\/p>\n

\n

The report urges investments in education, job creation, and skills training so all people can benefit from technological advancements and the growth of new industries.<\/p>\n

\n

It calls for inclusive institutions and policymaking to ensure all voices are represented.<\/p>\n

\n

And it advocates equity-focused approaches to labour markets and taxation, to open opportunities for all people \u2014 no matter who they are or where they live.<\/p>\n

But, of course, investments require resources and many developing countries are getting squeezed.<\/p>\n

\n

Nearly half of the world\u2019s poorest countries are either in or at high risk of debt distress \u2014 with interest payments relative to revenue at their highest levels in a generation.<\/p>\n

\n

Leaders must live up to the commitments made in last year\u2019s Doha Political Declaration on Social Development and the Sevilla Commitment on financing for development.<\/p>\n

\n

And we must push for reform of international financial institutions to better represent and serve developing countries.<\/p>\n
