The timing of the FIR against Lok Awaz TV’s Maninderjit Sidhu raises serious questions. Yesterday @INCPunjab highlighted his Exposé on the failures of the Bhagwant Mann govt. Today, a grave FIR is filed against him. Is this the price of speaking truth to power? This is a clear attempt to intimidate Lok Awaz and Maninderjit Sidhu for exposing the government. I condemn this attack on press freedom. Punjab’s journalists will not be silenced. My legal team will stand with every journalist targeted for doing their duty.
ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਮਨਿੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਲਾਇਕੀਆਂ, ਨਾਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਅਵਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਰੱਖੀ। ਅੱਜ ਉਸੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ FIR ਦਰਜ ਹੋਣਾ ਮਹਿਜ਼ ਇਤਫ਼ਾਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਨਾ, ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਣਾ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਜੁਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ। ਸੱਤਾ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ’ਤੇ FIR ਦਰਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾ ਸੱਚ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦਬਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੈੱਸ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ’ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣੇ ਹਰ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਟੀਮ ਡਟ ਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇਗੀ।
ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਮਨਿੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਲਾਇਕੀਆਂ, ਨਾਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਅਵਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਰੱਖੀ। ਅੱਜ ਉਸੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ FIR ਦਰਜ ਹੋਣਾ ਮਹਿਜ਼ ਇਤਫ਼ਾਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
